Hello,
Can anybody give me advice on what to look at/take pictures of on the 1973 412 in the classified section in Cincinnati? I'm going to take a look at it in the morning? Thanks for any help, would be my first Type4. |

Finding parts for the front suspension is hard. The better shape it is from the get go the easier time you will have setting it right. Ball joints can be found on eBay from time to time, while strut cartridges are very rare indeed. Don't be mislead into thinking a front end shimmy is just a tire problem, it is likely way worse.
Read Ray Greenwoods posts about rebuilding a T4 front end on Shoptalkforums.com. He has a lots of good idea on how to get around not being able to find some of the OEM replacement parts.
The 73 will have a D-jet FI system. It is probable that the manifold pressure sensor is leaking. Remove the hose and see if it holds vacuum when you suck on it. They are available, but I can't give you a source.
Most of the rest of the mechanical parts are readily available as they interchange with other VW products. |
