Friends,
So I am driving the 48 around the neighborhood. As I am going through the gears of the crashbox I thought I just love that noise of the tranny. What's your favorite noise your VW makes? |

Well, in the truest sens of the word, single tip exhausts don't Fweem (the chirpy whistley sound made by the twin peashooters)... but some may disagree.
My split makes a whirring sound my other Beetles don't/didn't. So I't have to say that....
and....
The "thunk" of the of the sem flipping up over my left shoulder when I signal for a left turn..... and subsequent ""thump" of it landing closed when I flip the dash switch back..... |

| My favorites are the sound of the Abarth style exhaust on my 36hp and the faint ticking of the Perohaus clock when I'm still in the car after the garage door closes and everything is quiet... |

Go for a ride...
Yes I know the sem switch is upside down, that is the week after I got my '50 in 2002. The pods have since been restored and the sem switch righted............. |

actually it's the noise it doesn't make. after i mastered the crashbox and downshifting was second nature there was that little sound right after you rev the engine and it slips into gear. it's alot better than the all the grinding i used to hear. |

| Driving in 4th gear..... anywhere from 40 mph to top speed and you let off the gas... and the tranny sings that little note.... Huyyymmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...... I LOVE that..... My Split doesnt have a Crashbox.. its a 1955 Tranny. Maybe its a similar noise on a Crashbox. |

My '57 makes that noise (spiral cut gears) but my split does not (straight cut gears if I am not mistaken).
But on a gear note, taking off in 1st in my '50, there is a real distinctive, primitive sounding, rr-rrrRRR-RRRRR-RRRRRRRR! sound I like too. |

| I would have to specify the sound of Second gear whine, only heard from a full crash box and the wooshing sound of air flowing thru the thermostat throttle ring only audible from a super quiet single tip exhaust at low idle, also there is a sort of whistling noise thru the semaphore slot with the semaphores closed when the wind is just right |

| My favorite has always been the heavy duty sound and truly satisfying feel of the door closing as you shut it from the outside, particularly as the door handle latch mechanism just passes over the striker plate. I listen for it everytime I shut the door, its a distinct and nearly perfect low frequency "click" that just screams quality and craftsmanship. Just about tells you right there how much thought and care even went into designing the simplest functions on such an inexpensive car. |
