does anyone know where is the egr light reset switch? also, i was fueling up my 1978 westy on a hill. topping it off like normal, i noticed there was a smell. i walked over to the side of the bus and noticed that there was gas leaking out from where the side panels are semed together. is this normal? was the gas leaking from a vent?

The hose for your filler neck may be cracked. A bit of a PITA to change. Do a search on here, or on type2.com for a procedure. Jeremy

In response to the gas leak, I had the same thing happen to me. Turns out that there is a small (2-3") piece of fuel line that connects two fuel vent lines. It had dry rotted after 24 years of service, and gave way. It was hard for me to see it, so take a flashlight and shine it up the vent shaft on the driver side. You should be able to see the two metal vent pipes and the connecting fuel line. I think it's a 1/4" piece of tube. Tell us what you find out.

It's behind the spare tire well and very dangerous if you don't replace it. Too bad VW did it this way (put a hose in a location unprotected from the weather):
