What is the trick to keeping the spark plug in the socket?

Use a piece of hose over the insulator on the sparkplug to remove it once you have it loose. You can also use the hose to start the sparkplug then use the socket to tighten it. Remember to change the plugs with the engine cold to avoid thread damage to the heads. I also put some anti sieze on the threads of the sparkplug when installing new ones. milotype2

You can also fix the socket. Take out the rubber insert, shorten it so less of it contacts the plug and reinsert it all the way in. You just need enough to grip the plug but most will grab too much of the body and the socket pops off.
