Mine is a bit better than 20, I fill it every 200 miles, because the sending unit doesn't work :) Jeremy

I had a Weber progressive set up and got around 24 highway. I switched to the dual 40 idf setup and get around 18. What carbs are you guys running? milotype2

i drive a 69 w/ 1600 s/p and i get roughly 27 mpg on the highway, and 22 intown. I am running 205/75/14 in the rear, so i get about an extra inch over the stock tire size. taller tires mean less rpms for the same speed. my bus cuises at 70mph at about 2800 rpms.

just an idea that worked out for the best.

My '76 transporter, 2L FI gets ~17 mpg city, ~20 mpg highway.

I getting 16 in town and maybe 18 highway in my 74 bus with a 2L. I'm running
1800 heads with duel 40 dells and a mallory unilite. The mileage isn't great
but I like the way it runs. I have owned two other 76 buses which I put weber
progressives on and they both got around 22 to 24 mpg.

running dual delortos, 2.0 with 1.8 heads. has like 6k miles on motor. just checked- i lied! im getting 18 town, 20-22 hiway. still not bad i guess. i cruise like between 70-75 on highway. although i was spacing a few times and looked at my speedo, caught my bus heading towards the 90 mark.
i really want to put electronic ignition in. ?????

I have a '71, 1600 dual port with a single-carb, and I get 28-29 on the road, and 22 around town. My town driving is harsh, it's all short distances since I live 1.5 miles from work and come home for lunch. I live on an island, so I feel I have to drive the distance of the island at least once/week (about 15 miles ea/way) to exercise him, but I do take him off island every chance I can to stretch his legs. My mileage quickly increases 1 or 2 mpg on our trips.

Huji, you're probably hauling too many bike parts, they're slowing you down! You still have nothing to complain about, tho. Vicki

I just got back from a long trip with my 78 FI Westfalia and I barely achieved 20 mpg hwy at 65 mph average speed. I previsouly posted that I can do 17 mpg in the city. This is with pertronix and worse without.

manxmaniac@aol.com Mon Jul 07, 2003 11:45 pm

If I would keep my foot out of it, I'd get a lot better, but our 71 Bus has a low mileage stock 1600 dual-port with a 34pict & a 009 distributor & around town it gets a little over 20 mpg & running 70-75 mph on the freeway with short bursts up to 80-85 mph, I've managed to get 23-24 mpg. Have Fun... ManxManiac

2003 Eurovan MV: 17 city, 20 hwy.

sendalljunkhere@hotmail.c Fri Jul 18, 2003 4:56 pm

I've got a '79 Transporter, 2L FI:

Even loaded for a long trip on the highway, average is between 22 and 29. Around town about 20 mpg. At 13 mpg, you're either carrying a TON of weight or something's just not quite right...
