I usually stick to whatever name brand amps are on sale. I just saw Bazooka Amps on sale locally, 350 watt for $99. Ebay is a great place to get amps, I have noticed there are alot of good deals on soundstream, one of the higher end company's, which happens to be local to me as well. Subs are pretty much all the same nowadays, unless you are talking high end. Go as large as you can if you can give up the room. This dosen't have to break the budget either, for instance circut city and best buy are allways have buy 1 get 1 free deals on their subs. Once again, as long as you go with name brand equipment you usually cant go wrong.

I lucked out and bought my "el chepo" system at Fry's here in town. JVC automated flip down CD player (KDSH55)usually $300ish on sale and demo model -$149 - polk db 5 1/4's - $25 closeout down from $115, polk db 10" sub $25 down from 99, the sealed box was 25, And and Amp (Jenson) I picked up as a Demo at circut city ($40) and I think my wire kit I already had. Thats $265 for a $580 system. It was kept small (around 150w total) as it was in a bug, now It is in my 65 bus and is still a great setup, although I will probably soon get a soundstream 5 chanel off of ebay, and run two 12's or 15's, along with 6x9's in the rear

Thanks for the information. We are thinking about putting 2 6 x 9 speakers in tht front doors, 2 6 x 9 speakers in the rear door and some smaller speakers in the side panels. We are planning on putting the head unit in the dash where it belongs. We thought that maybe an amp would fit under the driver or passenger seat or possibly custom fitting one between the front seats and building a strong cover over it so you could still walk through. Any issues with power from the existing electrical system on a '78 bus? A friend suggested putting in an extra battery.

I just installed a new system in my 78bus couple days ago. I have two amps, 400watt pushing 2 6x9" in the doors and to 2 41\2" in back top cabinet (I have a camper), also one twelve" sub pushed by 200watt...All my stuff is low end, jenson and pioneer amps, and pioneer speakers, fosgate sub. It sounds good enough for me. It does not seem to drain my batteries and I have really not seen any problems since I have installed my system.
