Some cool stuff being brought to light in this thread. It thought it might be a good idea to collect a list of the suppliers to VW and what they made and ultimately post it somewhere.
I'll start. If you have something to add, please copy the whole list from a previous post, paste it into yours, and add a new line. Separate lines by a blank line, and please, production parts only, NOT accessories. This list would get to unmanageable with all the accessory suppliers out there.
If you want to add a part to a mfg already listed, do so, but old it, so it is clear what is added.
Be as specific as possible when citing parts.
Split Beetle parts only
Thanks
Bosch (Robert Bosch)- Wiper blades, Ignition coils, generators, distributors, rotors, points, spark plugs, regulators (?), headlights
Hella- Headlights, taillights
SWF- Ribbed semaphores
Spahn ("SPO")- taillight housings
Hermann Stribel ("SHO")- Grooved semaphores
GHE- ashtrays
VDO- Speedometers, clocks
That's just off the top of my head right now.... have at it! |

Im not sure if Perohaus is an original supplier or if they are purely accessory. I comment because the Visor in my July 4th 1952 Split has a Perohaus logo on it. But, not sure if it is original.

Interesting. Anyone else see a Perohaus visor that appeared to be original to a car?
Any other suppliers that I am missing?? |

| CK made stock Rubber Mats for VW and possibly Gas caps. I know they made accessory locking gas caps for VW. They may have made VW trim rings too. I have a NOS set of date coded 1958' accessory trim rings for 356 Porsche made by them, but that's another story. :D |

I don't think these are all split, but they are VW suppliers.

Excellent! Thanks...
Yes, Kamax, Raschle, Knipping and Verbus were all fastening hardware suppliers. I wonder if anyone can help verify what items in IN2VWS list were definitely used on split Beetles? Many there I recognize.
I will put these in a spreadsheet so I can sort them and post a table somewhere. I'm thinking I can host it at the Zarwerks "Techwerks" page probably.
Thanks for all the inputs....and especially IN2VWS for posting all that great documentation clips. You are THE source....!! |

How about:
ATE, and possibly Schafer for brake parts.
Continental for tires and generator belts.

Dorn is actually US supplier, and to my knowledge, VW never used them. Yes, I have found Dorn bolts on VWs but assume they were put there post-production.
ATE is in the list above from IN2VWS.
Continental is a good call on the fan belts..
Thanks.... |
