If we wanted to put a 1641 in a bus that had a 2000 pancake motor what do we need to change? bellhousing ? crossmember? We have a motor,a new 1641,mild cam and dual kads, the 2000 is going in a westy and we would like to put a 1641 in our 74 combi. My friend bought a 1976 from germany with a 1600 dual port stock from his relatives. So it must be possible with a couple of changes.any help would be much appreciated.

if you search back about three months you will find a number of posts on this topic- my memory is a little fuzzy, but i believe you will have to change the pressure plate and T/O bearing, otherwise the engine bolts right up. you may need an adapter to mount the rear engine cross member though, unless the engine case on the 1641 is a universal case with the tapped mounting bosses. the big thing is the topside cooling tin- http://www.aircooled.net sells a shrouding kit for the conversion, otherwise you could do some creative cutting fitting and welding. hope this helps.
