| I have been told that it will, but have never tried. Reminds me though that several years back I was driving a 356C coupe, and would razz the local Porsche club members by telling them that I was thinking about selling the 356 and buying a real Volkswagen. |

Yes it will work, but why would you want it to?
I believe it will come down to just changing the flywheel.
A 912E is a heavy car & Type 1 motor wasnt designed for such a car. Your car is designed for a T4 motor which came in the 411, 412, and also
the 914 as well as the later Bus. |

a type 4 would be better in a 912e and would give you better all round perfomance then a type 1 plus as said the e is a type 4.
but ive be told you can do a type1 in to a 912. in fact im planning to do this myself. this summer in my 67. while the 912 engines out for a rebuild
http://www.geocities.com/clarkblumberg/911-912page9.html check out this on converting to a type 1
ive also noticed a 912 in the classifieds with a type 1. emailed the guy but no reponse as yet. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=579440 |

It's much easier putting a T1 engine into a '66-'69 912 than into a '76 912E. The T1 will bolt up more easily to a 901 trans than a 915, and the earlier cars were much lighter so performance should be better. |

| It's your car but think long and hard before you put a Type I into a 912E. You will be devaluing it by thousands instantly. (I wish putting a Type IV into my Super had as dramatic of an upward effect on its value.) |

Did you buy the green, red or yellow engine?
I had a friend buy a Bergmann 2332. A year later is ate a valve. We tore it down and we were surprised it lasted that long. It had stock 311B rods that were clearanced with a bench grinder and the bolts were ready to pull out. The case was paper tin at the top. The cam was also clearanced with a bench grinder and i'm sure none of the part were rebalanced.
The heads were EMPI out of the box and the pushrods were not all the same length.
Unfortunately he replaced it with a Serrano 1776 which just last week broke the #3 exhaust valve spring.
I wonder what will be the 3rd? |

| Hmmm.None of this sounds good. I do respect the opinion and comments of the forum community. We have yet to fire up the motor. The installation is slowly underway.Outside of tearing it down for an inspection, prior to install, I can cross my fingers and hope I have the one good motor built that month. |

| Bernie used to build some good stuff years ago but his rep has slipped in the last ten years or so. I used to buy stuff from him cuz he was local to me at the time, last thing I purchased was a welded 74mm TIV crank, it lasted about 30k before it broke. Hopefully you have better luck. |

Wonder if he wants to go quality next time??? Maybe he should contact Jake and get one of his 'kits' and have the quality built in... !!!
Hope he makes an informed decision this time. Cheap and inexpensive are not the same thing. With what he has in the first two engines, he could have had a really good quality engine the first time.
Take care,
