| Do you think it would be possible to make a thin-lipped generator pulley by cutting down a normal 36hp pulley on a lathe? |

You could try and fake it, but the early pulleys are alot different. 1st off they are three piece, back plate, hub, front plate. The front and back lock together with the shape of the hub (two flat sides with two rounded sides). The later oval are two piece, back plate and the hub are one with the two shafts that fit into the front plate. I think the 40 horse and up have a smaller diameter. So trying to make one out of an 36hp style would be noticable with the two shafts that fit through the front plate and the backing plate has a thinner lip as well on the thin lip style. Anyway Stodartt (spelling) the porsche supply company sells repo ones. They are definately not the quailty of the og ones, but they can get you through till you find a nice og one.
Hope that helps. |

For the record, this is the style of pulley I was talking about; I think this is a '54-'55 pulley if my research is correct. I think it would have been possible, but I think I would have just ended up one hard-to-find part to make it look like another hard-to-find part.

I did this exact thing and you can’t tell the difference. You just have to start with any early Fat Lip pulley, the early fat lip pulleys are just the same as thin lip pulleys, spot welds and all. The early fat lip pulleys aren’t that hard to find. My Okrasa motor was cut for a sand seal and I didn’t want to cut down a real 25 hp pulley which is why I did it.
Oh I see you were talking about the generator, I did the crank pulley. |
