I'm wrapping up on a project now and I am interested in maybe doing a limo bug. I've seen them before. My question is... Is there such a thing as "blue prints" on how to do this or do I wing it myself? Any info would help. Even if it is to tell me that it would be a bad idea.

Why do you want to cut up a perfectly good Beetle and turn it into some freak car? Seems to me the best you can expect from this project is to have a car that is a source of humor to passers-by and a source of tooth-grinding to people who respect VWs.

OK. It would be a bad idea... My .02

a while ago there were two for sale in hot vw's they looked bitchen,, i wanted to do one but i don't have the resorces... i think that you just need to find two donor cars and go at it.

I sometimes hate this purist's site. The guy's asking for help, not opinions

99% of the custom jobs won't have blueprints. Something you'll have to wing on your own (and hopefully friendly help from otehrs on forums). The hard part IMO is to get the roof extended as there is no real flat spot on the Beetle's roof, it's always curving to a degree. You may want to had vert pan stiffeners to something similar to help the chassis from flexing due to the added length. If you're serious about doing this mod you may want to check out www.volksrods.com forum for additional help along the way.

Also I'm curenntly making custom shaped doors on my project right now, something you may want to check out when you're at thatt part of your project:

That being said... I agree with you "OG Nazis" make this site a pain sometimes :)

The guy who built this limo bug did it and it took him a very long time, with two other project/donors to mess with until he got it right. This bug has been around for a while, and it has hauled everything from loads of people to loads of firewood. It is not impeccable on the inside, but he drives it almost daily. It may not be your style, but I think he did an excellent job putting it together and no....he didnt waste two perfectly good VWs to get the job done.

I believe John Wayne showed up at the red carpet of the 1970 Academy Awards in a Limo-Beetle. 8)

The coolest and nicest lookin limo bug I saw was 15-20 years ago. A guy had taken a regular bug, cut it the cowl and then used a convertable from the edge of the rear 1/4's forward for the driver. Had that old British Limo look.

Looked a lil better than these. Do a search in google for "limo bug" and search the images

I've never seen blueprints. But if you are going to do it, do it right. Spend some money and get a nice split window, or at least oval bug (for the rear end) to cut up. You want that shit to really stand out!!!!

Doing a slightly longer Beetle would be cool, kind of make it look factory. Something along this line, but this one's stock wheelbase length

Willie Lottermann has a VW Taxi from the 1950's that was made slightly longer than stock and turned into a 4-door by a coachbuilding company. They didn't sell many, though, because they turned out more expensive than a Mercedes of the same year!

i believe kdf-wagen made 4 door sedans like that during WWII.

It would probably be a whole lot cheaper if you could find one already finished and then modify it the way you wanted. I see them for sale every year. I saw two for sale at the Classic just a couple years ago.

If you REALLY want it to stand out, build a limo baja. Now that's something I'd look at!

I've seen a couple around here and think they are pretty cool. If memory serves me one was a 72 or something, and they put a 2110 in the back to power it. It was blue with the darkest tint I've ever seen. They actually rented it for occasions.

You should make a Fiat limo, that would be badass.
