1 - I'm so glad you put the search on each forum page so folks can search specifically in that forum.

2 - I love how on the classifieds search it has the link that opens up your search so you can refine it - I would use this alot in the forums search as well.

3 - I would LOVE if the forums search allowed for searing of words with only two characters. Seems it always ignores them. It would help with searching for specific issues with specific years (ie searching on 67 in split forum for issues with 67 only stuff).

4 - Keep up the good work.

Two characters would yield far too many hits. I believe it was stated once before that this restriction was imposed because of the number of irrelevant hits that would return.

On every search I limit to only search the title which greatly throttles the number of results.

What's an example of a topic you're trying to search, and what criteria are you using (i.e. How are you formatting your search?)

Say I'm looking for posts having to do with 71 buses and the need for the large vac port needed for the brake servo when using dual carbs. Lots of times threads would have 71 in the title but I can't search on just 71 or 71 carbs in either the bay or engine forum which would most likely bring back a thread on it.

Or say I have a 67 beetle and I want to find posts about that year specific stuff - I would just seach on 67 in the beetle forum using title only (not title and body).

Or if you drill down into the split forum and search on "CD" to find posts about where to install CD players without cutting the dash. Zero results.

Or say "6v" - nothing comes up at all even on all forums.

I know it's a nitpicky thing but the classfieds search works this way. Just a suggestion

If you want to find 67 specific stuff for a 67 bug, look in the stickies at the top of the 58-67 beetle forum.

This brings up a suggestion that I have for a search feature. If it could be added, I think it would be nice to be able to search within a thread. Russ brings up the '67 sticky in the 58-67 beetle forum, but if you are looking for information on a specific item, you have to go through 13 pages to find it (and there are threads that are MUCH bigger than 13 pages).

Ev, anyway to possibly add such a search feature?

A 2 letter search I would do is "ZF".

A 2-character search is possible but I think it would be a problem due to the sheer number of additional search results that would result in.

Searching within a thread would be nice, I will try to see if I can add that.

What if there was an automatic default to limit a 2 letter search to the first 100 hits?

It would still have to store everything, which is the primary issue.

It's already limited to 20 (1 page), although I could limit the total results to 100. This wouldn't make any real difference though.

The Gallery does store down to the 2-character level but there is much, much less text there.

^^X2^^
I was searching for ruby red in the split bus forum. Somewhere in the 60+ pages of the patina thread there is a reference to ruby red.

well i believe that on any given page you can [ctrl+F]
and it will bring a find bar at the bottom of page

but that works per page
