Which body style is the most valuable? Or are they all kinda the same, just a matter of preference.
Which body style is the rarest of the 3?
In your opinion, what is considered "big" money for a type 3? $10000+, $15000+ etc.
Thoughts and imput appreciated. |

Notches are probably the most desirable, but the type 34 is by far more rare. A really nice type 3 is probably worth in the area of 10k, more if completely restored.
That said most high dollar type 3s sit on the market for a long time, because VW enthusiasts are cheap, especially the ones that don't dabble in split window buses.. |

I agree
The t-34 is the rarest. As time goes on it seems they all are getting rarer and rarer. I remember Squares and Fastbacks for $50 Bucks in the 80's ha ha the good old days. It is all about what you like what catches your eye. They all are getting pricey. |

| Notch, Squares & T34's pull the most money. With Fasty's in the rear. |

| Prettiest car always brings up the rear. Sorry, as a Fastback owner I could not resist. |

| SHHHHH. Don't let them know the fasty is the best. It keeps their prices down. |

Great, thanks guys. I knew the T34's are the most valuable by quite a bit. Interesting that some of you feel thet the fastbacks are worth the least. I would've thought: Notch, Fast, Square.
I've owned pretty much every type of aircooled VW with the exception of a type 3. Currently have a Thing and a 62 kombi. I don't have the time to restore one myself, as a result I would like to buy a finshed one.
So it's safe to say that 10 grand will buy a real nice type 3?, maybe even $8000 |

Rarest: T34 "Razor" ghia and parts to match also $$$$$
Coolest: Notches no argument
BIG money: $15K+ wouldn't even cover my costs on the Notch build, but then again you could probably find a REALLY nice OG one for about that now. |

I'd say $20K+ is "big" money.
I have seen some NICE original cars sell for under $10K but also some really nice custom cars go for $15K-$20K. Totally different markets though and the custom cars were probably sold at a loss in several cases. |

I drive the fastbacks, but would like to have a squareback as my "other car".
A little more versital. <sp>
Problem is around here, there arent that many T-3's period. I probably have the only ones. All of my T-3's have come from out of state. |

I'd agree with you on that one and I think most builders know it going in. I had no pre-conceived ideas I'd "make" anything if I ever sold. I doubt I'd even break even on parts alone, less labor/time. |

Thats what I'm thinking. I couldn't restore one for $10000 or $12000, not even close. Not to mention time, aggrevation, or the skills to do it myself etc. So if I could find a real nice notch for say.........10-12 grand ish, I couldn't go wrong.
"The older the notch the more desireable" this must be a correct statement, right? |

if it's body style you're refering to, it's a matter of taste. Some guys love the old (round nose) ones...some guys love the newer (boat nose) ones. But the earlier all OG cars are defineatly desireable to some. |

I like the early body style better but I would take a clean late-model over a ratty early model any day.
Depending on where you are at and your time table for locating a car, it makes sense to go with quality and condition over anything else. |

I've had a square and a couple of fasties. Currently restoring a 69 fasty. One problem with the square is the engine compartment is right there in the car with you. My square was considerable noisier than my fasty.
I have seen some pretty nice type 3's here on the samba in the 5-6k range. |
