Anyone know what each of these h/l rings below are from? I have a pair of each of these headlight rings(they are both the 9/12oclock style). I am running a set of early bosch euro headlights on my 53, which both of these fit. Looking at these two styles, the ones where the mounting tab in curved are stamped Bosch. The others are not stamped. I wanted to use the ones stamped Bosch but that tab hits the fender before the ring can seat properly... Which are the proper ones for the Bosch Euro h/l's?
Thanx, Gavin

| Hi, I got interested and just went through my 9+12 headlights with Bosch logo rims. Out of 8 six are with two rivets and streight rounded mounting tab. Many of the tabs have VW logo inside. Some are so rusty it can not be seen if any. Two are with square curved in (also a bit wider) tab. These headlights have no VW logos in the reflectors, reflector holders or rims - only in the lenses. I think they are MB truck, Unimog whatever DKW headlights with VW lenses and my conclusion is that the streight tab is correct for VW. Especially if the other model does not fit without damaging the paint. |

Sorry HeSa, I disagree with you. Have a look at a Zwitter, 54, 55 or 56 owners manual and you will see a headlamp with the square end tab.
Also in the 52-57 workshop manual, it also shows the square tab...........on a VW!

| Thanx for the replies... After more looking I still can not see pics of any similar to the ones on the right with the L shaped tab. They definately do not fit on a beetle. And too bad as all the ones I have these are in the best cond to have re chromed... |

You´re right, square tabs were obviously used also with VW - difficult to say from that picture if it is curved in.
Funny enough if you go two pages backwards to 6.1 (in 52-53 Workshop Manual) it clearly shows a Bosch headlight with a streight rounded two rivet tab. And both pages are dated 11-53 in my manual.
