View original topic: 5,5 early Fuchs on a lowlight. What to do?

I'm going to buy a lowlight, and am trying to figure out my rims and tires setup.
I've got a set of earlies, 2x 4,5 and 2x 5,5.
I want to run the 5,5s in the rear (offcourse), but I think I will need spacers to avoid rubbing on the inside?
Does it make sense to buy 5x130 drums and spacers? Or should I get wide5-to-5x130 adapters? What's the difference?

Also does anyone have a picture of 195/65 on a 5,5 rim?

Thanks in advance!

Kai, can't you just get a spacer made locally to fit your needs if you go with a disc brake set up?

Just run the adapter like I do with the wide 5 brakes(rear only, I have discs in the front), you will need it to keep the tire from rubbing the spring plate with wider tires. My set-up right now is 5.5's with 165's, the adaptor ads around 1" and my tire is 1 7/16" away from the spring plate. Another reason why you will have to run the adapters is the hub of the wide 5 drum is too large for a fuch to mount on by drilling, unless you go with a (1968) or later bug drum or type 3 drums and have them tapped and studded with a spacer. BTW I have short axles.

I have been told I can run a 205/65 or 70 but I am worried about having to cut my fenders so I might just get some 195's.

Can't wait to see what you are going to do with a Lowlight Kai, good luck!

Thanks for the reply, Neil! And congratz on your prize at the Bob Baker show. Car looks great! 8)

So I should just get adapters of about 1" thick for the rear? I think I'm gonna go for a 195/65 tire.

Should I get this style:

or are there nicer/ better ones?

And where's the best place to get nice chrome lugs?

I hope I will have a lowlight soon Neil! I'll keep you posted! 8)

its cheaper and easier to just get wide 5 to porsche pattern adapters

I did the drilled drums and spacers on my white 62 rag, it was a lot easier on my blue 58 to throw on adapters and call it good
and cheaper!!!
