o upon tearing down a decent running engine i found that there is a few case savers and also someone put in a adjustable push rod tube with no spring lol and it didnt leak much oil. is it just me or is that odd?

Great find in that 65. I hope you secure that nice bug. Living in So Cal there are alot of bugs being stolen in the LA OC area. I have had two stolen, so keep it parked and secured. Have fun..

Nice looking car, but "bone stock" is a stretch. Wrong hood, front fenders and turn signals for '65, tail lights would be all red on US model. No two-tone paint on sedans, missing aluminum window trim, no license plate holder (or even the holes for it) on the decklid. No wiper arms and some kind of neck brace behind the rear seat. Also, non-VW wheel covers. What you have is a nice "customized" '65, not "bone stock"

Congrats, and enjoy it nonetheless :vw:
