I just bought a 912 sunroof with a serial # starting 129XXX does this indicate a 1969 long wheel base?

Car has a busted case (through a rod) need to fix so I am in the market for an engine,

Anyone know how many of these cars were made with factory sunroofs?
Car also has a gas heater intact and will be a good project car.

Any help?
Thanks
Larry

you have a '69 as indicated by the #9 given in the VIN. The rest of the numbers will indicate if it was built by Porsche or Karmann, etc.

You will find more info here:

http://www.912registry.org/aboutus.htm

and here:

http://www.912bbs.org/

There's links on each site for more information. The 912 is really a very underated car.....unfortunately, it costs as much to restore a 912 as it does a 911S....but the values are going up and they are great drivers.

HTH a little.

So you got the car from German Supply. I think you did pretty well for what the price was.

Good Luck with the car. Did you go to Hershey last weekend? There was probably quite a few engines to be had there.

Yes I got the car from german auto.
Its a good car, am really surprised nobody else snapped it up.
I don't know what I am going to do with it yet.
I did go to hershey but am not looking for a motor yet. Looks like a tear down first and see if anything inside is good. Sunroof works and it has a gas heater.
I spent money on my other cars at hershey.
Did you go to Hershey?

Any ideas on the number of sunroof 69"s Anybody know?

Thanks all

Didn't go to Hershey.

Looks like you have a rare car :) Nice score...

Quote: Sunroof coupes 912s built from 1965-1969 912s are extremely rare, with less than 50 currently listed in the Registry.

Quote: From the beginning of production in 1965, the 912 was available with an electric sunroof option. These coupes are fairly rare and are in demand. Very early models had drain openings that directed water to the window raingutters. Later, the drains were relocated to lead to the channels under the engine lid.

Many 912E came equipped with sunroofs, rumored at 500 (25%). Another assertion is that two 912E Targas were produced; if you have one, please contact the Registry!
