Turn the hubcap over. Inspecting the outter edge, look for (3) Square shaped dimples. If they are present, you have an authentic German cap. ALL 1949-65 German hubcaps will have this unique feature. Some German caps (but not all) will also have numbers punched on the outter perimeter of the cap as well.

Prices vary with condition.
I sell original caps in decent shape (minor pitting & scratches in Chrome, but no dents) for about $15/ea. Once a cap is dented or creased, the value is almost worthless to me as now the buyer will have to have it straightened & replated which can easily cost $50+ each cap
Very nice caps are about $40/ea. NOS caps $100+ each |

I think it's totally random what caps can go for. People will pay more if it's a nice cap with an intact original painted logo too. My friend bought a very nice black-inset hubcap for $20 just to complete his car. He was prepared to pay up to $50 for a mint one. I have bought some really nice ones for $2 or less at swap meets.
I sold a matched set of blue-painted logo caps (Ghia) for $60. They were straight but the chrome was very pitted. Matched set of 4 though, that added some value. |

| Once you know what you are looking at..............................you can see OG hubcaps without looking for numbers or "flat" spots. The chrome, the stamping.....even the edges can be easily identified by sight. Holding an original and a reproduction will identify a huge difference in just the weight of the originals. NOS early hubcaps are EXPENSIVE. $600 for a set of four is not unheard of. |
