Just looking for some pictures of 135 tires on a 5.5" wheel. How bad is the stretch? How does it affect the handling?

-Thanks

well yes there are Ass loads of people who probably use a 135
But
think about a tiny tiny tire for stearing and front braking
Hm???

IMO
id never run 135s on a car
unless its Just for show

Its a stretch alright. Seen from above, youŽll be able to read the writing on both tyre walls!

My 57 came with 135's on 5.5 rims and it looks bad. You also have to be careful when removing the wheel and laying it down, could scratch the rim. I'll be switching to a better combo...very soon.

Not enough rubber on the road for braking. And they really suck in the rain.

I use 195/50/15 on the front of my bug.

i ran 135's on my empi 8 spokes 5.5 for a few years. they really get stretched out going on the rims and they had stress cracks/dry rooting look to them. they braked fine and turned fine but i have 145's on them now and they work great. i was worried about rubbing but the 145's don't rub. 145's are alot safer and they don;t look like thay are getting stretched.

i would save the 135's for 4.5 rims and stick with the 145's for 5.5 rims..

that's my 2 cents..

good luck..

Im concerned with rubbing since I have my 74 Superbeetle sitting pretty low for that year of super. I have 135's on the front now with stock 4.5 wheels but I just picked up a set of 8 spokes for $64 and want to use them on it. When I bolted them on and let the car down on some wood blocks it apeared they were about even with the fender so rubbing would be an issue with a larger tire. I rubbed with the 165's some but the 135's work good. What is the size difference with 145's?

Plus 10mm in width and 8mm in sidewall height.

ok, I think Im just going to put the rims on my dads 69 Bug then take his stock chromies for my Super.

135's look terrible on a 5.5" rim, unless it's tucked well into the fender. Stock width beam, ugly as hell. On a 5" narrowed beam, looks good, you can't see the streched sidewall as bad. Not too mention if you are running a beam that narrow, your car is usually laying on the street, and it's pretty hard to see the tires anyway.

thanks, that's on a stock width beam w/o dropped spindles...i figure it'll look even better with a 4 or 5" beam and spindles :D

Really? I could of swore that has at least drop spindles.

I was down in Tennesee this weekend for Circle Yer Wagons and noticed a 74 Super for sale that had 8 spokes with 145's. It wasnt as low as mine but it sat good. So now I know I cant fit the wheels with my current setup. If I raise it on spot on the struts and get 145's I will be in good shape.

you should run a smart car tire they are wider but thinner than a 135 and handle much better. the size is 175/55/15 or the other tire that is on a smart car 155/60/ 15 looks good too.
