I might be a little biased, but I say do the Type 4 conversion. It really is a great conversion, if done correctly. A good place to start reading is this tech article I wrote:

There's also a great thread over at the Type 4rum on shoptalkforums.com showing a well executed T4->T3 conversion. The pictures show how well a Type 4 engine fits into a Type 3:

| If you put carbs on an L'Jet bus motor how many horses do you knock off the rated FI horsepower? Running carbs w/an FI cam? |
