I was looking for help finding a gas gauge indicator that goes in the instrument head for my 1974 ghia. I understand that they used the same gauge in the type 4.

If you are still looking, The Samba Classifieds has this Ghia clock/gas pod right now. Used.
Yes, the Type 4 item is virtually the same as the Ghia clock/gas pod. Sometimes the trim ring might be different, such as smokey vs. chrome.
Best bet for availability is to keep checking Ebay or The Samba, like I just did, and be patient. Sometimes a seller will show up with an NOS in-the-box item, although this is rare. That's how I replaced the speedo on my Type 4 about 5 years ago, with an NOS part.
If you can afford to wait and like to check out VW shows anyway, you can cruise the flea market areas there for parts. I have seen many used Ghia/Type 4-style speedo and clock/gas pods at the flea markets over the years.
Your only other option is pulling it out yourself at a VW wrecking yard, if you like wasps and getting dirty that is. B^) |
