He has been in a Barn in Southern Ireland since 1971... He was parked up after he was "borrowed" by a local lad that the owners didnt like... and so when he came back, they didnt want to drive him again!
The car sat in this barn for 36 years! Stuff was piled up round him.. he was eventually dug out and has now made the Journey to Bedfordshire (just north of London UK) :D
He is an original RHD 1953 CKD kit with the Irish Shamrock glass.
This is the first time it has seen rain in nearly 40 years... even though it looks like it has lived in a swamp...
Needs a quick polish... |

| For being parked up since '71, that Beetle sure looks to have had a very hard life. |

It was Built in June 1953 (chssis number checked on the Samba) ... However, being an Irish Built one it was a CKD kit... so I dont know if it was actually put together that month or if that was the month that the chassis was made?
My LHD 53 (From Sweden) was built in August 1953 ... Should I keep them both?

I restored a 58 with that kind of heavy rust ,but i had lots of time and skills to do it all myself .that was 17 years ago though and dont think i would bother now with 3 chidren etc .From a time and financial view the 58 probaly wasnt worth it ,but time and money was never what it was about for me .It was just about saving another old vw.
When i got my 58 home i immediatly stripped it ,put everything into boxes ,even the rotted carpets and had it media blasted .that was the point of no return for me and i couldnt keep away from it for a whole year.
Good luck with your car.
Otherwise first dibs on the rear clip and door locks please. |
