Both are said to be orig two owner cars, so why the different parts, production dates maybe? Which is more correct for the 67? Here are shots of the gas caps and flasher switches:
67#1
67#2
67#1
67#2

| The gas cap on the top is a VW part but from what I was told was replacement cap . The emergency flasher on the bottom is correct for the 67 the other looks to be an older model....maybe production date difference . |

The rubber outer part is missing from the car #1 Emergency flasher knob.
The gas cap is a replacement on car #1. |

| About 10 years ago, when I went to VW for a replacement gasket for my tank cap (low profile style with the big logo), they told me the old ones were no longer supported, due to safety concerns (they pop off in an accident). They would only sell me the larger replacement type, which was alleged to be safer. |

| The LEAST consistency during a production year was 1967. An early '67 will have different parts than a late '67 and a mid-year '67 will have a potluck of differing parts. There are a few rather long "67" posts outlining interesting differences. '67s are a fun year, but a real pain in the a$$ when trying to do an "authentic" restoration ](*,) |

Isn't there three different "correct" locking knobs for the 67 bug? |

Yes, but the first pic is still a fatchick door lock button with the rubber missing  |

This is what is in my '67... one on each door! If for some reason you have the same thing going on, I'll trade you my "fat chick" for your other! No sense having two cars with mismatched lock pulls. |

Both my 67's have a cap like picture 67 #2. Flasher # 1 is the same as flasher #2, but it is missing the black rubber that goes around the red center. If you push back the rubber on a 67 flasher it looks the same.
The flasher for a 66 is also red but is smooth and shaped a little different. |

I was told by someone who claimed to own a 67 back in 67 that he was sent a factory/dealer notification to change the gas cap from the factory VW logo one seen above to the flat one without the logo that was deeper and was less prone to slip off, which is also pictured above..
He also said that what ticked him off at the time was that he had to go to the dealer and pay for the swap, about 8 bucks. |

The flat one pictured above is not a German cap. It's Brazilian. '65, '66 and '67 shared the same German factory cap that had VW on it. Even today, the cap on my '65 and '67 requires a bit of force to remove. I dont know how they could be slipping off (???) |
