I have recently bought a 914 gauge cluster for my beetle.
It has a split odometer, but I can figure out how can I reset it to zero :?
what is the big light on top of the tank gauge for?
P.S.: if someone want to trade a mph speedo for a kmh just let me know
Thanks |

| The light above at the top of the tak guage is an e-brake light, and is lit up red when the brake is on. To reset the trip on the speedo, on the 914, their is usually a knob under the dash that would bring it back to zero. |

If the little cable that goes from the underdash to the back of the speedo didn't come with the cluster, you can re-set the trip odometer to zero with a tiny cross section piece of square stock, a square key or maybe an undersized hex key. Even a small screw driver angled into the insert hole would do the trick.
There's a small hole in the back of the speedo housing; the key or square stock ought to be around 3/32 or so, quite small. Insert it and twist clockwise. If it just seems to spin, try a larger one.
It might seem silly but once you find the correct sized key to fit the insert inside the housing, it's Easy Peasy and makes perfect sense.
Luck,

Thanks TC for the input, I see what you mean.
I did the hex key thing and it works.
How is the device on de 914? I mean, is a kind of cable that you have to twist, or what?
I do not want to get out the car, open the trunk and turn the hex key every time I want to reset.
Is there any store were I can buy it?
And finally,
where the parking brake light is, I think I have seen an oil temp gauge, is it possible? |

depends on the combo gauge, as some had removeable moduals so you could remove the brake warning one and install a 911 oil temp or pressure gauge there.
914's from late 73 to 76 cars that didn't have the center console had this type of combo gauge with a oil temp gauge but no numbers. |

Here are some quick snaps of the cable that you're looking for:

It only twists on way, clockwise, threads through a hole under the dash and just plugs into the back of the speedo. Kinda neat really, WAY better than the shaft sticking diagonally out of the back of the 356 speedo.
