| So who is going to help them out? If some of the SBS members can help would you mind the extra hands? Let EL DUB know he was working on the SBS helping out. If we can't all help I'm sure we can pitch in where we can. No we aren't looking to lower their bus. |

Ive been back and forth with Big Bus Mike and if possible I think we can work out the parts and logistics of getting this together.
If it works out anyone considering donating parts should maybe hold of a week, then possibly have it all sent to one place/ person?
at the same time you dont wanna be shipping a bunch of bus parts to her house, the plan may get foiled.
Hmm front emblem... hmm starter.. hmm.
Know what I mean? |

You guys/gals just tell me where to be and when. This is sooooooo exciting I can hardly contain myself! I've never been a part of such a cool community of people. Well, I mean, I'm not saying I'm a part of anything just yet...I did refer to the bus as ah-ah-ah-uh-hem..."v-word" after all.
Anyway, this would just be amazing. Please let me know if any assessments need to be made and when, any parts bought and where, any bribes paid....
Side note: I am taking my mom to Portland to visit family the first or second week of June (we haven't settled it yet...but really need to...like quick). This trips falls on the big show in Irvine. Do you I need to come down to that show and move my trip around?

| Korie, June 7-8 is the infamous OCTO/Classic weekend. OCTO is at Anaheim Stadium (buses only!) on Saturday and the Classic is all VWs on Sunday in Irvine. OCTO is a blast and real down-to-earth. The Classic is the all-dressed-up version. (Psssssttt, go to OCTO if you have to choose one.) |

The Classic comes around every year. Certainly you can meet a lot of people and maybe score some parts. OCTO prices can be up there for parts, but great to see the bus community in full force. Better deals on parts usually seem to be at the VW Classic Sunday, later in the day. The weekend is an international happening though.
You could always just plan on driving the bus to these events next June. Not to mention dozens of other local shows that follow later in the summer. |

Wow, cool thread, I just now discovered this one.
What a great thing you're doing for your husband! And, yes, change your plans so as to attend OCTO for sure. If you REALLY want to blow his mind, steal the bus -ala Overhaulin'- and have it in the OCTO show where you'll just "happen to discover" the show with him on that Saturday. You'll both go in, he'll be completely stoked on all the buses, and then you'll lead him slyly to his bus... and likely a rather large crowd of Sambesta's to cheer his being re-united with the bus. THAT would be so fun! And you betcha' I'd be there to see that! OCTO is THE Split Window bus show in the US.
One month til' OCTO, and with sources like PDUB in Ventura right on scene, a mechanical synopsis is likely going to be soon, and, according to what that engine looks like, positive. |

Stanagon wrote: Getting that bus roadworthy does not look like a big deal, especially if the motor runs.
I found this bus a couple years ago and am driving it regularly now.
I started with mechanical repairs and basic body repairs (battery tray). The holes in the roof were made from rodent nests and repaired with aluminum tape and brown duct tape (for looks). So far my temporary repairs to the roof kept the inside very dry.
You made need professional help with the bottom of the front window repairs, but lots of other things can be done yourself. Lots of pix in my gallery for inspiration, as with other Samba member's galleries.
Wow your driving this bus I'll look at your gallery beacause I need to learn more.
Korie,
I'm a gal too, perhaps you can help your husband do some of the work too although just being on this site is a lot already. I am getting my non-tool spouse to help me with my rusty 66 after I get it running. I just love what you are doing for your husband.
Linda :D
