Just got her home...Man are we proud..

So here's stupid question... We noticed that we're missing the front blinker housings. The lenses are just screwed to the piece that holds the housing. #1 Is this housing different that that on a split bus? #2 If different, or not, where can I get a pair? (haven't seen any on here) #3 Should the lenses be glass and what color, are the glass ones hard to come by?
Sorry for the stupid questions, we are previous split bus people..

She's a 57.

Thanks for the help!!

Tony

i believe i have read that the housings are a bit different for bug and bus. seems like it had to do with the drain holes on one or the other being triangle shaped. i think if you have bus ones they will work until you could find some for a bug if they are in fact different. as far as the lense color they should be white plastic (going by what is on a friends 57 oval that was very complete when he got it) and again i think these are the same for bus. hope this helps and i am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong  .

They are longer and more curved than bus.... easy way I was told was if it sits flat on a table it's bus... they are out there

lenses are the same, can be clear or orange...

p.s. I got a pair of chrome housings for sale :)

Factory ones were plastic, although I have seen some glass ones and think they were aftermarket.

Nice car, congrats!

Beetles were plastic. I think the early Ghias were glass

Thanks for the info Guy's...

Another stupid question... What does the number under the VIN plate stand for? It reads, 506 967

Matthew Tolbert Fri May 09, 2008 3:07 pm

it is the body number. not sure of its intended use, so i checked the dictionary here and it only stated the use for buses but would assume it was used for the same thing on beetles during the manufacturing process.

Body Number On Buses, a number stamped behind the passenger front seat before the usage of the M-Code plate. This number was used for tracking the body during the production process but has no useful meaning or direct relationship to the Chassis Number
