I found a Karmann cab from late october 51. It will need a lot of work, but the worst is:
The front apron has been changed so i do not have the body number. I only have the chassis plate with the chassis number. The plate was moved to the new apron some time in the sixties.
Can anybody help me finding my body number?????
Did Karmann make such lists and do they exist today??

I have all papers, chassisnumber and plate that says type "11/15" and former registration number (plate). It is also still in the "registration system" so it will be no problem geting it on the road.
Anyway - it would be great to find the body number. |

In that case its really eazy to make one from an old plate as long as you have what you have to prove it. Mine also on my vert was so rusty we had to make one from scracth. |

The newer apron on the car had the old id plate moved on top of the place where the body number was suppose to be. The apron is therefor ready and untouched to be stamped with the OG body number. |

So you are saying that you have the plate with the vin that mounts to the front of the car?
The VW museum should be able to provide that information if you get a birth certificate from them. I know that they are not providing the engine number unless you provide it and they will confirm that it is the original engine or that it is not. I don't think there is an issue with the body number. You just provide the VIN and pay your 35 euros and they supply the rest.

Great! Thanks.
Anyway - this is the first certificate i've seen that has the bodynumber mentioned. Did you have to ask specifically to get it from the museum??

| Nice car! There are no existing lists about body numbers. Better to have a KARMANN without numbers, than having no KARMANN. Have you got more pictures? |

This is on it now: the plate, but not the body number.
Picture is just for illustration. I do not want to distribute my chassis number on the internet - sorry about that.

Thank you for the nice words.
I was actually thinking of contacting you to get some advice in how to restore my car. It will need complete new channels and lots work in both the front and rear. One of the doors will also need alot of work. The skin is cut quite high 20 years ago..
Rear view mirror, decklid and rear seat are ALL missing... Does anybody repro the rear view mirror? Finding an original can't be easy
All pictures was taken the day I found it. It was a lot of mess in this garage..

I believe that since VW supplied Karmann with partial body shells to convert into cabs that they would have stamped a body number on the front plate so if you get a birth certificate it should have the body number on it. |

Aha - I understand. I don't have a birth certificate yet. I am planning to get it soon. |
