View original topic: RHD Oz fuse box location?

Where was the fuse box (the 4-fuse one) on Australian ovals?

I'm in the process of installing a repro Oz wiring loom on a RHD UK car and during a dry run, some of the fuse box wires were too short for the 'standard' position to the right of the speedo.

The picture below, from an eBay auction of an Oz oval, suggests to me it was in front/left of the speedo, as opposed to the right of the speedo (viewed from the driver's seat) as a RHD UK car would have it. Perhaps what I think is the fuse box in the picture is something else?

Thanks. Very sweet looking resto BTW.

That's answered a few questions for me and it looks like I will definitely need to reposition the fuse box to use this loom.

Can you answer this... what route are you using for the stop light wiring to the switch on the master cylinder?

The photos I have of my wiring to the Master Cylinder go through the grommet hole you see at the rear right of the gas tank hole.

Not my car by the way, but I've been in touch with the owner. Really nice guy!

I can't comment on the location of the fusebox on Australian ovals but if its any help I can tell you that the fusebox on my UK-supplied Sept' 53 rhd oval is (as you look from the front of the car facing towards the rear, as in your Oz oval pic as above) between the speedo and the drivers side bonnet hinge................

Thanks for the replies.

The fuse box is now in its standard position; it doesn't appear there's any difference between UK and Australian ovals in this respect after all, phew!

The problem came down to the loom maker's install guide saying stuff like "Wire 19: Fusebox to ignition switch" without mentioning that it actually made that connection via terminal 30 in the light switch. The length of the wire provided dictated that the fuse box be in an entirely different position if the instructions were followed literally. In their defense, the loom makers do say their instructions should be used in conjunction with the car's wiring diagram.

A day older and a little wiser! :)
