So recently purchased an 81 Rabbit pickup. About two hours into the trip, the truck blew out black smoke and died on it. I was in the mountains and I think it may have overheated because after letting it sit for about 30 minutes it started back up. Then the rest of my 12 hr journey, the truck ran fine, and I stopped the truck 3 times to get fuel and it always started just fine.
However, I woke up the next morning and tried to start the truck and it won't start. I checked the glowplugs and they are getting power. Basically, I crank for a few seconds and it begins to sound like it wants to turn over... but never does. And after a couple of cranks, I start to get smoke up around the front of the engine. But I can't see exactly where it's coming from because of the timing belt cover.
Anyone have any ideas... how could the truck go 14 hours and now it won't start at all????
