so i have a 61 type1 with orignal drum briakes and right now i have 5 spoke empis on it. I oput on some lowering springs and now my fenders rub. I was going to narrow my beam but i dont know how much i should narrow it. I dont want to go to narrow. I heard that my empis have a 1/2 inch postive off set. I was wondering if anyone knows the offset of Fuch rims? If i do disc brakes does that bring my wheels in more too? Im hoping i can maybe change rims and not have to narrow my beam at all or maybe juts narrow it a litte. I nkow i am talking alot about beams and this post is in the rim section but i was hoping that you guys would know all the offsets. thanks

Lowering springs? You mean spindles right?

What size tire are you running?

^ Yeah...

By adding drop spindles the wheels are pushed out about .5-.75", so you'd want to narrow your beam at least 2" with a 135/145 tire. Wider tires you'll obviously want to narrow it more.

I'm running 205/40/17's with about 20mm offset wheels and a 4" narrowed beam and it rubs just barely when I pin it all the way.

you have to take into consideration the drop spindles added track width AND the 5 spokes have a more postive offset which is adding track width. you could probably get away with a -2" with the right tires but a -4" would take care you you pretty much no matter what. i really like -5" personally. it gives you a little extra with aftermarket wheels but isn't overly narrow should you decide to go back to a stock wheel either. it all depends on how low you want it to be and what tires you want to run. i've never been big on 135s. i think it was done back in the day because it's whats was there that would let you get the room you needed. today theres TONS of tire choices. i'm running 185/55/15s on the front of my square. nice wide footprint and actually SMALLER in overall height than a 135. it only takes locking it up and loosing control on 135s one time to not want them any more...ken....
