| are the 5 speed trans in the 94 jetta the same as the older jetta and golfs,will they interchange or do you have to have a 94 up trans |

If you use the trans from an A2('85-92 Golf/Jetta), you will need to use one from a 16v car for it to fit up properly...or you need to use the clutch assembly & flywheel to match if you get an 8v A2's gearbox. Make sure the A2 had 100mm CV flanges as well, because the A3 has them - if the trans has 90mm units, you need to swap the flanges over(and replace the seals).
The only snag you might run into when sourcing an earlier trans is the backup light switch; the style of the switch changed at least once during the A2 production run, and I believe again during the A3 years. |
