I just brought home my 53 oval ragtop w/ semaphores. I believe it to be a euro. import w/ KM. speedo, Telefunkin? radio,SWF washer bottle and the vin # 1-0498949. The car has been in storage since 1975 and is rust free!
I would like to know what month the car was built by Vin # and have tried to look on samba ,but can not find dates. I would also like to know what is correct paint code for the dark green paint it was from factory and if anyone has an opinion on using single stage enamel or is base coat clear coat paint the way to go on a vintage oval restoration. I will post pics. on the gallery.
Thanks for any and all help, Ben

Now that I looked in your gallery that does look like that same color as Bobs.

Wow thats a sweet 53, would you be interested in selling it.

ben edwards Wed May 14, 2008 9:43 pm

I just brought it home and have started to realize what a clean car it is and have not thought of selling it. The owner gave me a 9 or 10 slat made in Germany rack , 2 other 36 horse complete motors, 2 later oval tanks (for sale) and said to come back for more when he cleans out some storage and that he has some rare items for ovals!
P.M. me if interested in parts i.e tanks or maybe the Telefunkin? radio.
thanks, Ben

Bobs oval is the original color to my car. Would the rag top been black/tan/green? The interior is was a tan cloth. I think I could live with tan or light brown stock interior style material ,matching top and wheels painted in a same color w/ white walls, rings and caps.
Anyone who knows how to find original color combos I would be interested in keeping car close to stock as I can.

53 Oval , can you tell me the paint code for your dark green oval? and is it painted w/ single stage or base/clear coat? or I could have the paint matched from inside of glove box.
thanks

Hi Ben,

L19 Atlantic Green. All interior paint is original factory single stage Glassurit. Exterior was matched by PPG computers using inside ashtray and then "eye" matched under natural sun light by Barry Guscott in Vancouver, Canada. I don't have that formula but the Glassurit formula for L19 is currently posted in another thread.

I have a problem as my two front seats do not match and my passenger seat has Huls recliner in great shape. How hard and how much are these early seats w/ recliners going to be to find? I really need the drivers, but I will ask if any one has early stock oval seats for sale? I have my seat w/ Huls in the gallery.
I have all the fenders, hood , and decklid off the oval and so far so good. I hate to part w/ all the add -ons I.E rack, radio and swf washer bottle set up,but I will entertain offers for trade on Huls correct seat for drivers side or complete set of correct early seats for the Huls seat?
thanks

I hoped someone could tell me what I have w/ the Huls seat? I want to have another Huls recliner for the drivers seat. Are these recliners very rare? what will they cost or has anyone seen prices on Samba?
Any info helps.
thanks
