Hello all
I have a set back changing the front wheel bearings. I cannot get the nuts loose, and the axles turn even when I put a socket on the opposite side. Does anyone have pointers, 87 GTI 16V with 225,000 all original(except brakes and general wear parts) thanks to Mobil 1 15/50 from day one and regular maintance? Thanks :( [/b] |

| Not sure about that particular vehicle, but I know on a bus the front nuts are left-hand thread on 1 side, to keep them from loosening up and falling off with the wheel's travel. Might be worth a try to see if they're like that on yours. |

| Spray with pb blaster, let it sit for a day. Spray again with pb blaster, give it a good whack just on the tip of the axle, and use a cheater bar on that breaker bar...it'll go just when you think something is going to break. It's a normal righty tighty-lefty loosey thread. If you are doing it with the car on the ground (safest) get a buddy/helper to hold the steering wheel slightly left turn to avoid hitting the body of the car and tell them to hold tight...and push the brakes hard (make sure to also set parking brake). |
