Also, I didn't like the standards until we got a 74 standard for my friend. Now I like them too. I think that when you drive a specific model, you will like it, because it's a beetle.
exactly. Its easy to look at a bug an say "i don't really like that style", but when you actually drive it, you love it. |

the "72 1641" isn't a 72 1641 at all...it's simply a 72 engine with oversized pistons and cylinders.... adding the "72" has no effect.... i've yet to see a vw in Radford more than once every couple months, so are there really that many vw folks there? i'm in Radford 4-5 days per week.
I am from New york, exactly 580 miles from Radford VA. I think this is funny because I had occasion to be there once a month ago when my tow vehicle got stuck in radford , (spun main bearing on mile marker 108 rest stop.) while dragging home my latest 1971 VW. We had to go down there twice more in the last two weeks. Each time I was there I saw the same rat roded , black primered VW with LOUD exhaust roar by and I got a thrilll out of it. Saw him at least a couple times each day i was there...
Just to prove I was in Radford I had the engine replaced at the University BP gas station. Bubba is the old guys who sits in front and talks about the old days.(must be in his 80's) I stayed at the executive motel. |

Funny you don't see us, there is me and another flat black bug, but his is a '69 with a 1500sp, and there is a green super with a 1600dp, a 71 super with a 1641, and I drive mine well over 200 miles a week. Send me a pm if you ever wanna meet up and talk Vw.

| Never considered owning a Super (or a Beetle for that matter) until I got my Super Beater. I'm looking forward to driving it when I get it done and I could care less what anyone else thinks/says about it. |

Hahahahahah, yep, that "ratrodded" bug is mine, but it is much quieter now, had a stripped exhause stud for a while...... But its happy now.
But I have to admit, it is fun to realize that your noticed. A lot of Vw owners look down on people simply for driving thier car every day, at least in this area. |

| LOL, good stuff. You sound like a 67 owner( whos sh#t doesnt stink according to them). An aircooled bug is an aircooled bug. Some see it this way, and some dont. I give respect to anyone in a bug or other old VW that drives the crap out of it, and loves it for what it is. An Aircooled. |

Hah, I like how your argument says...... (paraphrased) "They suck, the older the better........ and thats why supers suck."
They don't suck, it was a natural progression.
New beetles suck, not a natural progression. |

he said not one cool car was built in the 80's... the classic aircooled was built until 2003... pretty much the standard US spec. 68 model year up through the end...they did get the good stuff added, EFI, disc brakes, etc... but relatively unchanged...
the super was indeed an experiment in natural progression, it was vw trying to make the car more fitted to what folks wanted, yet keep it a relatively economical redesign for them... it was a failed attempt, or maybe a "too little, too late" venture...
puts out owns two fatties anyway... so by his own admission, his car isn't cool... and this, is precisely, why i take his comments to be sarcasm... they made me laugh. |

Let's see if mine is cool or not... Standard beetle... Check
Since mine is a 71 I'm not sure if it meets the strict "very very very beginning of the 70's" requirement... Very beginning yes; but very very very? |

| My 79 drove way better than my 62. I'm a retro-fart that loves my 62, but I don't deny the Supers were very good cars. I think it's cool that VW kept improving the beetle while keeping the same basic body design. No one else did that for 30+ years (50+ years if you count the Mexibeetles), so a Super is a very notable car just for that fact alone. |

I love my yellow 74 super. Tho if you see it, you probrobly wouldn't think so. I am currently in the process of repainting it, so it looks pretty shitty now. The roof is grey primer, the front is black rust inhibitor, the trunk is bare metal, and the rest is yellow. Also i removed both the front and back hoods. I love it when im at a stop light and the guy behind me is pointing and amazed that the engine is in the back, and the guy next to me is staring at the front with a confused look on his face wondering where the hell the engine is, . gotta love it.
Also i don't understand why \people would hate supers and love standards??? Its the same shit cept for the front suspension, the spare lies flat, and the windshield is curvy (73-on). Everything else is the same pretty much. Hell from the out side a 71 super and a 71 standard look identical. I usually cant tell, unless i look under the fender and see springs. |
