| I have a rebuilt 616/1 normal engine but itīs missing the original distributor. i have a German 009 and i wonder how the timing should be done. Should I adjust timing on idle or at 3000 rpm?And what kind of values, 30 degrees @ 3000 rpm? The engine has its original zeniths with "normal" jets and venturis. Thanks. |

Hi,
Take a look at this:
http://www.356registry.org/Tech/ignition_tune.html
You should have around 5 degrees static timing and around 32-33 degrees advance at 3000RPM. However, with the 009, you may not have enough advance built into the distributor to achieve both. If the 009 has around 20 degrees built in, you could try for around 10 degrees static and 30 degrees at 3000 RPM. You'll have to play around to see what your distributor does.
Conversely, you could purchase a proper distributor for the 356.

| Thank you very much. That should help. I have the correct distributor but it is so badly corroded that it cannot be used. I could restore it if I had some parts for it. |
