I've got a 1995 Wetjet Kraze with the Yamaha 701cc engine. According the the PO it had a new engine installed a few years back because it wasn't winterized properly. Everything looks to be in good shape, and its getting 140psi compression on both cylinders. Anyways, onto the problem..

I took it out last season, and it started and ran fine for about 15-20 minutes then it would just idle down and die. It only does it when you start punching the throttle. After it dies, it starts right back up and idles fine again until you start giving it gas. Before it does that, it seems to have plenty of power. Any ideas as to what could cause this? I can't find any shops around here that work on these things...only Sea-Doo's.

Just a thought, try putting some methanol/gas line antifreeze in the tank. I would have to guess that some water got into the tank, methanol would eliminate the water. Just my $0.02 :)

Sound like crap loose in the carbs blocking up the pilot jet intermittently. Drop the bowls and see what evil lurks.

sounds like a temp sensor, or rev limiter to me. another thing to have looked at is the crank seals. 2 stroke engines run off of positive and negative preasure from the crank case, if the seals are blown, the fuel pump wont work, most likely the front. but the problem sounds like one of the sensors to me. plus check to make sure it has good water flow throw the engine.

a cheap way to check the crank seals is to pull the oil plug looking thing off the front off the engine, NO DO NOT PUT OIL ON THERE! put your thumb over the hole lightly and crank the engine. if you feel suck blow suck blow suck blow, then either Icy is there with you, or your seals could be bad.

I used to race these things back before they became boats with handlebars.

Once I had a water line with a hole in it that would release water into the engine compartment as the RPMs increased. This would create steam and sort of smother the engine.

From what I've gathered from here and a PWC forum I found, the heat sensor seems to be the problem. Thanks for the help!
