I found these today in up state NY. I was wondering if theye are worth picking up for my project.
I am looking for a buildable motor/trany for a fiberglass dune buggy project. I would like to get at least 150 HP.

Anyway.....
Car 1; (Black car below)
Chassis #4732911053. I beleive this is a '72. The badge on the back reads 914-1.7.
Engine # ???????
When I went to find the engine number I found a tag riveted over the id # in the original position of a 2.0 id #. The original # has been ground off. I was told by the current owner that his father purchased the car many years ago for parts and never drove it. He also said the PO had raced the car. Based on this i assume the tag is from an engine builder. The tag number is 5573AP-903799. It also has a logo on it. It is an engine silouet with an Impala/Deer inside a circle above it. It would be nice to know about the engine and builder if this is the case.

Car 2; (Grey car Below).
Chassis # 4702909505. Is this a '69?
Engine # ??????. Cannot read complete # but it starts with WO and is in the 1.7 location.
This car was run for several years by the current owner but parked for the last 7 after the rear end rusted out.

There is also an engine on the ground.
Engine # GD000157 in the 2.0 location. As far I can see this is from a '76 Transporter what ever this is. A bus?

There is also a set of 4 wheels that I have never seen before. I was told these are Porsche but am not sure. I tried to load pictures but had no luck. Can someone please advise me on how to do this?

I would be great full for any info and or advise as to wheather these are worth picking up. As I am only intreased in the drive trains I would be getting rid of the sheet metal very CHEAP or maybe even free for the hauling. I will need to transport the parts to Wisconsin. I do not want to carry sheet metal this far.

Thanks to all who reply.

Have been reading your forums for a few days no. I am impressed with the knowledge and fun. looking forward to staying in touch.

If you cant be good........Be good at it.

Figured out how to add pics. Here they are. I hope.

the W code case makes a strong beginning case for a Raby 2270 165 hp engine kit....gonna cost you for all that hp!
doesn't look like too much there to part out either off those cars but is there a Rain tray off the 70??

a concour guy is lookin like crazy for one off one.....any parts that are good sell at 914world.com

The wheels are as common as dirt, I have a set that I'm about to scrap for weight along with some other chunks of alloy.
The cars can be stripped out and the bits and pieces sold for good money. The bumpers, outside and inside mirrors, interior padding, sun visors and such all fetch decent $$.

The 914 is kinda like the buffalo once was, no part of them is wasted. Someone ALWAYS need something.

If you can get everything for under a grand, you end up with a engine and cash to spare.

you can find Jake on the bay window form,, He claims to know where every motor he build is .. ok ....LOL

your building a bug so keep the engine / trans .. the rear trailing arms and brakes ,, including the hand brake cables and lever,,,, you also want the rack and pinion ..tie rods..... both cars

I might even go for the shifter and all the linkage,, not knowing the years,, they might be tail shift or side shift.

you say F/G buggy .. why not drop a body on the 914 chassis.. yes you can weld up a sud frame to go a arm or L/P front end.. you would end up with a midship sleeper
