wow that thing is nackered up.

but, there is 500 bucks worth of parts there.

oh and its a late '57

my65vert Thu Jul 03, 2008 2:12 pm

yes, there is way more than $500 in parts on that bus.

press bumpers and brackets
taillights
brakelight decklid
radio plate
etc....etc...

even better if you could just strip it on site and leave the shell there. I would take off everything that you can unbolt/screw/hammer/cut.

Why do you think it's a late 57? I would of said 55-early 57. Brake light engine lids were gone by early 57. This is my guess, I'm guessing that the bubble taillights were replaced?!

Hhhhmmmm....

Is this bus worth saving or should I just strip it.The guy wants $200 for it.It still has the pressed bumper on the front and the little window in back. What would the parts be worth?

I love that there is a sickle leaning against it!

hmmm, well maybe it is a crossover from brake light lid to dollar lense.

or like you say, the dollars were added as an 'upgrade' somewhere down the line.

Ian Thu Jul 03, 2008 3:45 pm

More than $500 worth of parts, but what is it worth as a whole project? $1000?

I would like to see this one get saved.

I would like to see this one get saved. -12,000$ to your bank account if you are lucky

I believe the dollars were added, the reflector base is below them still. the reflector was discontinued when the dollars were started.

So 55-early 57? I may be wrong but that's my final guess.

I vote for this advice. If you can strip it there for $200 you're laughing  Bring a sawzall

66busman Thu Jul 03, 2008 4:34 pm

I've seen worse. I vote for saving it, but do with it what you will.

Looks like a home made cab divider.

Stock cab divider.

Kombi Thu Jul 03, 2008 4:50 pm

Go back and look at these areas...

The shinny area should be a Volkswagen Canada badge, beside it might be the body tag with the chasis # just below stamped into the body
and

on that back panel will be a # stamped into it. this will be the body # and can help find the range of your bus (body number is easier to read but will be nowhere near your Chasis # like 15000-25000 behind)

with those #'s use this page
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/chassisdating.php
and you'll know for sure what your bus is.

My 2 cents I think it's a mid '56 to early '57
