Here is my project: http://ambasadeur.blogspot.com
I am going to replace my rear shockabsorbers on this car. The only pair I have found is by Kaefer-Nostalgie and one German company.
Have you guys any idea about where else I can get them? CiP1? Wolfsburg West. They write 52- and up I see. But how much is the difference?

| The newer shocks ar 2-3 cm to long if I remember right. When I did my -52 14 years ago I used Volvo PV shocks  (had them laying), a litle bit short but otherwise they work very good, they are still on the car. |

Maybe try EMPI 9650 shocks?
The ones for lowered front ends. They might be too short, but they should extend long enough. |

| You can use Nissan Vanette c120, 78-87 front shocks. KYB part no 443187. It´s without lower rubber bush, take it from old one. |

| My split was restored on a U.S. Army base in Germany, and the shocks are actually surplus Jeep shocks! They fit perfectly. |

I've just bought front shocks for my '51. Having measured the old ones, I can see that they are 215mm when closed, and 320mm when extended.
Shocks from an old style Mini are 210mm when closed, 330mm when extended, and otherwise look exactly the same. I've just bought a pair of new ones from eBay for £25 ($50)

I thought that the Classic Mini shocks looked exactly the same too when my brother bought new ones for his -64 Austin Mini last month.. :D Never compared them though... |

Are those from the front or the rear of the Mini? |

| I am not an engineer but I think there are other variables than the lenght that should be taken into account before mixing front engine front wheel drive car shocks with rear engine rear wheel drive car shocks. There is also a reason why the VW fronts are black and rears are red  |

Here is a set of early Nos (vw) short shocks I picked up yesterday in a new load I got. Vw logos in 2 different places. |

Yes, I'm sure you're right about that. In the case about the Classic Mini shocks I think that the front shocks for the Mini's would be pretty close to the same as the rear shocks for splits. The Mini's weight is 610 kg's and the splits weight is around 700-800 kg's, right?
The Mini's most weight is on the front where as the splits weight is most at the rear. I also know that the Mini's engine/transmission is heavier than split engine/transmission so my guess would be that it would work to use Mini shock.
BTW, the Mini's rear shocks have a different mounting on the top than on splits. Similar to late balljoint beetle front shocks. |

| No offence, very nice parts, but just for the clarity both AX in the part number and Austausch mean factory rebuild, not NOS. |

Ok,
I believe these are the short shocks for the no shock tower beam 49 & earlier? They are 7 inches in length pushed down and 9 inches when pulled open.
The actual part number on the bottom of the shock starts with VW logo then 111 . 413 . 031 then reads Hemscheidt Bauartzenz On the top of the shock it reads Austausch-Dampfer with a VW logo. |

I think that Hesa refered to my shocks with the AX and I guess he's right about the factory rebuild?
I have not yet inspected them more closely. Will do that tomorrow. |
