When I bought the front shock I got this paper with them:
Clearly says AX.
The stamping on them says:
Fichtel & Sachs AG
S26x100
2817 00 228 003
(VW-logo) 111 413 031 A
And one of them have a sticker saying: Austasch-Dienst/Exchange Service.
The rears say:
Fichtel & Sachs AG
S26x100
2817 00 228 005
(VW-logo) 111 513 031
Made in Western Germany
10/73
The last code appearantly is the manufactor date? Guess the are repros then...
The S26x100 diameter x stroke on the shocks? (Same on both front and rears...) |

I would not call them reproductions as they are original VW.
Here´s a similar F&S non-X set, both front and rear are s26x100:

My Mini shocks arrived yesterday. They're a lot thinner than standard VW shocks (about 1 1/4" thick, verses 2" for the VW ones), and the mounting bushes are too small (but can be pressed out).
They're dirt cheap, and will do for the moment, but I guess I'll have to find some genuine VW ones in due course. Anything's got to be better than the rusty and defective ones that I removed though |

My June -52 split still has it's original front shocks. Just made some cleaning and new paint. Yes, they still work, MOT has shock test.
Dated 4.52
