What is the correct way to connect these two pieces?

Should I open the eye?

I looked at Hazetguy's photos, and he used a nut/bolt combo, but his accelerator cable did not look like mine, his had a flat end at the front.

(Those holes are pretty close to the edge eh?)

My '61 has a cross pin there instead of the hook going through the L-bracket.

I think 81/82/83 are for the center pivot point?

It's been a long time since I've changed an accelerator cable.
(Watch out, now three will break in a week)

That link never works for me...I wonder why? Hmmm....here's another way from a '67. I guess you older bus guys don't put it inside or they only stay on the outside of the little flap. I always add a washer to the pedal link 'cuz that little crush always wears away anyway.

My bus used to be setup like this until the bracket broke off!

Now it's all better of course! I set it up like my 67.

My 67 was setup like the one EverettB posted.

You shouldn't have to open the eye unless it's been smashed shut. It's a tight fit and you must put it on the ell bracket before installing the bracket. The outermost hole is lower "geared" than the closer hole for foot-to-gofastness.

BarryL, doesn't your mounting method limit "pedal to the floor" travel? (Pedal to the metal) so to speak.

Barry, I think why Clara's website don't work for you is because it has bandwith limitations being a free hosting site.
As soon as a post is made on the samba linking to the freeweb site, lots of people go looking at it, (probably big pictures) exceeding the bandwith limitations, then the site temporarily shuts off that page.

Every Bus I have ever seen had the L-bracket on the outside of the U-shaped bracket on the frame. '67 could be different though, I never looked at a '67.

You got me worried so I went and looked and tried the gas pedal to see if it hits. Panic: no travel! Then I remembered the engine is removed temporarily so the pedal is already sitting on the metal and hence the picture like that. I've already given myself the Waldo Award so no making fun of me.

I had mine setup like BarryL and then the J-shaped metal hanger that is welded on to the body broke! It was hooked up this way since before I owned it. It is still working but it is weaksauce.

I'm going to fix the hanger and put the L-shaped bracket on the outside like EverettB posted, my Truck and the others I've looked at recently have it on the outside.

My Kombi is a late 66.

My Factory Service manual shows the L-shaped bracket in the middle of the J-bracket, not on the outside as Ev has shown. Why the difference?

I always wondered that too. I know on one of my Buses I tried that and the U-shaped piece that connects to the pedal was totally crooked so it felt wrong.

Ok. Now I'm concerned. Is there a change in years when this got moved to the outside? The '67 Westy has that crookedness being mounted on the inside and I want to move it back before I put the pan back on. Was there a gas pedal link that was "s" shaped? Sheesh, before hitting "submit" I went and looked at my unrestored one-owner (before me) '67 Kombi and it has it on the outside. If nobody replies then I'm moving the Westy's to the outside. The Bentley shows it on the inside.

Holds it on, there's a notch the closed end of the spring locks in.
