the 412 has been down for a few weeks after someone stole my fuel via cutting up the fuel line. SO, i finally get the fuel line replaced, go get gas for the car and crank... for about 3 seconds. dead battery. so, i get it on the charger and get 'er runnin'. drive it down to the gas station, add gas and the alt. light comes on... tossed the belt. holy crap!!! sometimes i just can't catch a good break.

Gas and copper theft= rampant! I heard on the radio this morning about NYC putting locking gas caps on many police cars- even they were getting hit. I bought a property a few months ago with two little houses on it. A/C condensor units had already been stolen- after renovations began, somebody broke in and tore apart the rest of the HVAC system inside for the copper. I saw the guy who built a house on speculation next door to our current house (rental 10 miles away) and was telling him about the theft- turns he was over checking out the theft of his A/C condensors!

well, i spent way too long again getting the belt and bellows put back on the car. i'm just not flexible enough to make this an easy job.

but, now it's running again and very happy it seems...

after a year of the car sitting with the country squire decals being removed and the flames added, i finally washed the car again. after than was done, i found that the decal left lots of residue that i thought i had pulled. anyway, got out the decal erasure and went over it all again, then took a rag with mineral spirits over the worked area... MUCH BETTER! the driver's door is still not great because the glue and the door reacted differently than the glue did o the rest of the car. but, she still looks better. i even did a quick polish of the lip of the wheels for some 'bling'!

why is your roof rack mounted so far back?

vwfye Mon Jun 23, 2008 7:48 pm

because that is where the dealership mounted it in 1974

Is that around 20mpg?

vwfye Tue Jun 24, 2008 8:42 am

just filled up again this morning... 22.8 on 10% ethanol. not perfect, but i'm not going to make radical changes to the fuel mixture at this point... small ones and then monitor the head temps.

Are you still running 195/50's on the front? Are you accounting for the shorter tires in your fuel mileage?

vwfye Wed Jun 25, 2008 8:29 am

yep.. that is an accurate mpg
