View original topic: How to use the "Quote" function in forums?

Hope this doesn't sound too stupid, but I haven't been able to figure out the "quote" function for use in the forums.

I'm referring to the ability to add to a reply, "so-and-so wrote:", followed by a box containing the pertinent quote from an earlier reply.

Can someone offer me some quick pointers? I'm pretty much computer-challenged....

Hit the button in the upper right corner of the post you wish to quote. It looks like this:

The screen then looks like you're going to add a post; however it will be pre-filled with the post you wish to quote and will look something like this:

Code: [quote="mailman"]Hope this doesn't sound too stupid, but I haven't been able to figure out the "quote" function for use in the forums.

Add your response, and then hit 'submit'.

Thanks! Do you need to keep the entire quoted post? Or can you edit it to leave just the part you need?

You can edit it to your heart's content. A lot of times, people will bold, italicize, or even underline something from the quote they wish to emphasize. Example:

Code:
[b]Will be in bold[/b]
[i]Will be in italics[/i]
[u]Will be underlined[/u]
[color=darkblue]I will use dark blue to set it off[/color]

One can also mix and match any of the above, LIKE THIS

Practice by quoting some text and then hitting 'Preview' rather than 'Submit'. Always remember that if you accidentally hit 'Submit' you can delete the post you just added bu clicking on the 'X' that will appear in the far right corner of the post you just added.

Hope this helps. Enjoy.
