I have long been a connesiuer of fine automobile crashes, been in a few myself, and observed plenty along the highway. I have noticed that it is rare for a rollover to get completly upside down. usually the cars end up on one side or the other or back on their wheels.

here is a sod trailer that managed to get completely upside down.

anyone have any good pics of upside down cars?

im glad i have a fellow car crash connoisseur. i my self ( as sick as it sounds) enjoy watching and occasionally being in car accidents, as long as its not my car. nothing gets your adrenaline pumping more than watching something go down right in front of you. i also enjoy watching the design flaws in cars come out in real life testing, observing the weak spots showing themselves as i analyze how the drive could have avoided the accident.

Here's a lovely one in Germany. I particularly like the actions of the female driver.

For some insite on rollovers from a retired tower...

Part of the WreckMaster training you pull over a car and see where the balance is. You have to get a side way up there to make it flip UNLESS there is an outside force applied to it (tire blow out, quick stop on a stationary object, etc). The force required to flip is 1/2 the weight of the vehicle. Taller things (vans, Tractor trailers,...) will tend to land on a side and not go over, needs more force to pull the "leaver" of the side over.

A website with lots of pictures is Tow411.net. Ofcourse it is more for how to recover it than look at the car on the roof.

depending on a person's insurance and whether they owe money on the car, I suspect that many people become instantly upside down in their car the instant they become upside down in their car.

I'm thinking there is a 25% chance a car will end up on it's roof in a roll over accident........

usually the center of gravity will be low enough that it makes the number much less than 25%

I don't keep count, but of all the rolled cars I see by the side of the road, I would say that less than 10% end up on their lid (unless they have squarely planted the car in a ditch). most are on their sides, or back on their wheels.

That's a pretty neat trick given the fact that the car is only 5 inches off the ground.

This was about 700 miles south of the border in Baja California.
