We do 4 pitches then the T comes out....you bat till 5 runs or 3 outs....no "official" score but all the parents know.....unofficial line of about 10 feet in front of home plate, if hitter doesn`t get it across it`s foul {league rule says 15 feet}.
I kind of hate T-ball but it`s good for the younger kids to play and get an ideal of how the game is played...don`t worry it will get very competitive as you move up and play tournaments/all star games etc.!
Oh yeah umpiring is always fun...especially calling your own kid out looking @ stike 3 with the bases loaded and the score tied! and you have to ignore the comments from the other teams parents sitting in the stands behind you.....just remind them you are a volunteer and they could be doing it if they could get off thier fat butt for a couple hours once in a while! |

I coached T-ball for the last 2 seasons, and I'm coaching my son's coach pitch team this year. When I played t-ball, we hit off the tee, we kept score, we played with 3 outs. There were winners and losers. I don't remember ever winning or losing a game. I remember getting burrs in my socks from that funky Arizona grass. I remember going for ice cream a couple times after games at the DQ on Cave Creek Rd next to Manuels after the game. I remember my coach was Cecil Loper who owned Loper's Performance Center in Phoenix and campaigned a funny car in NHRA - so I thought he was cool.
I think score should be kept at all levels for the same reasons as everyone else here, but this country has PC'd itself to death.
In coach pitch, a parent is allowed to keep score, but the score absolutely is not to be mentioned on the field... we don't want a child to be scarred for life because the score was 37-3, now do we??
By the way, I love coaching. |

Didn't you know? Sports isn't about winning or losing anymore... Everybody wins now.

Three games into the season and we're "undefeated".
The other coaches are on board with my rules with the exception of wanting to leave a runner on base after they've been put out. What this has, unwittingly, done is make it easier to keep score. Now the team that makes the most outs on defense is the winner.
We're down to one girl who regularly uses the tee to bat. She wants so desperately to hit the coach pitched balls. She's getting better and they're all having fun. |

Any feedback? Any other Tee Ball stories or advice out there?
lighten up. if you got "roped in" then quit. kids need coaches that are there because they wanna be. t-ball is to get kids familiar with the game. as they move up to minors, majors the rules are applied. at this level you're just trying to keep them from pickin' daisies... |

Quit??? Really??? That's a great example to set.
Oh... I wanna be there; the kids wanna be there. We're having a blast... and winning every game. We won tonight, as a matter of fact! We had one inning on defense with three outs in the first five batters.
For what it's worth, after the handshake, the first question one of my players asked was "Did we win?"
Winning matters to them as well. I have not imposed on my players my perspective on the value of winning. They see value in it all by themselves. Thank goodness. |
