| Standard right hand thread. counterclockwise to remove. Those things can be very hard to remove. |

| I gave up trying to remove, The seal did not look to be leaking, it just had dirt around it telling me that oil collects dirt but it is minor. Just thought I would replace seal before putting engine back in. Like I said I gave up and engine is back in and running. |

| Yeah, I didn't do it either when I did the timing belt on a friend's 98 Jetta a while back. My cheap air impact gun was way too underpowered for that one. |
