Recent college grad and know nothing of practical importance...I'm looking to purchase early 1990s vw (preferably jetta) to escape the household. I'm first trying to get some basic knowledge before going into the buying market.
i'm looking at some cars, but can't find what defines a carat vehicle. I'm sure alot of you have this knowledge so feel free to share please. Time at home is against me, but I know not to rush into buying a car (especially older model).
Feel free to give me any other advice you might find helpful in purchasing a v-dub.
Thanks guys...

| Carat was an option package. Like the Wolfsburg edition (which was typically NOT made in Wolfsburg, it was just a marketing name) . More bells and whistles mostly - I think with the Carat you usually got most of the available upgrades except the 16V engine. |

| I have a 1987 Jetta GLI Carai. It is basically what the other replier stated. It is a 8 valve, 5 speed, with every option known at the time of manufacture, except power windows/locks/mirrors. Mine was made in Germany and has a RD engine. But if Carai means anything, well I currently have 480,000 miles on the same engine. And it was built German Tough. |

In my case it is:
Lowered stance, Mags, PS,PW,PM,PB,PL, Air, Cruise, cloth seats/door panels, tint, plastic trim, and that little Carat script on the back deck, plus mine's a Wolfsberg model. |
