The wife and I took our split out to breakfast, then enjoyed a three hour tour of the northern California countryside. The 25hp ran flawlessly, thanks in part to a freshly restored Glenn Ring distributor. Enjoy the video.

Thanks guys. With everything involved in the resto, I can say that I am 100% happy with the finished product. Especially since this is a car that gets driven to local shows/shopping/etc, not a trailer queen that drives 100 feet/year. I just can't decide whether I want to add glove box doors or not.
That, and whether or not to slam it on earlies. 8) |

That's how I'm leaning Kev. I just really like the look of the glove box clock, but not enough to put doors on.

The sounds of the car really struck me also (including the whirr of the starter, etc.). Made me realize what a unique & fun driving experience the really old VWs like these provide. I also thought about some Sunday driving we've been able to enjoy recently here in southern CT:

| I took my '52 for a drive as well - it's first outing with the newly rebuilt 25hp. It ran great except for a stalling problem, which turned out to be a piece of sand in the jet (thanks ///Mink) - once that was fixed it ran great. It starts as fast as you can push the button. The voltage regulator is still kaput, so I'm just running off of the battery. |

| Nice how you edited out the gear grinding on the downshift at the end and used the music instead........ |

I'm surprised it took someone that long to figure that out
Actually John, I was really hoping to have the music much more subtle and in the background, with all the sound of the shifting, whirr of the 1st and 2nd gears, semaphores clunking, etc. When we got the video home, all the clips had the worst wind noise due to the ragtop/windows all being wide open. I had to just give up and cut the sound out completely. Believe it or not I'm actually getting really good at downshifting. I wouldn't say I'm anywhere close to perfect, but I can hold my own.
We used our Pentax pocket digital camera for all the video, and the microphone on it, well, sucks. |

I did a similar video a while back driving my car, but I didn't have a "cameraperson". I know what you mean about the mic's on those digital cameras... no chance of capturing the essence of those split sounds...
I have the perfect song I found on an old CD to use, will make a vid later this summer.... a song called "Ragtop Deluxe" what could be better?
Was just surfing airfares and travel options for Solvang in the Sept, will your new split be there??? |
