Couple fender questions and please point me to the thread if (which I'm sure they have) been asked before.
1. Only the rear fenders on my 11/52 zwitter have the dimples between the bolt holes that secure the fender to the body, Question is, are all four fenders supposed to be dimpled?
2. I saw a beautiful 50 split today at a show but none of the fenders had these dimples but the rear did have the dimples for the tail lights. Question is when did they start and stop putting in the "between bolt dimples"
Thanks, Bill |

Fronts don't have the dash-dot-dash-dot indentations....
Rears do.
This applies through Ovals as far as I know, I'm not sure what year this stopped? |

| I think it stopped in 1960. The '50 you saw must have had later fenders with the indentations added. |

| There where somewhen around 1960 rear fenders produced by VW that had the dimple for the split taillight but not the raised areas between the bolt holes. They ran out of the old style ones and produced some to keep on the spare parts supply. |

I wondered if that was a possibility but had never heard of it. |

Yes, I saw those for sale in Hückeswagen last week! |

| Comparing the actual shap of the dimples of an oval fender with that of a split fender, the dimples are a different shape at the ends as well. |

| I wonder why they stopped dimpling? I suppose like most changes it was dictated by "fundage", they added strength but at a cost that was no longer justifyable (extra tooling & extra process). |
