Hey guys:
I'm mostly a Vanagon poster, but my wife has a 98 Jetta GL. It has sunroof and power locks, crank windows.
Does anyone know if they came with Keyless entry in 98 in the GL line?
I would love to get her a set of key fobs if they did, but the rinky dink dealer we bought it from didn't have them and didn't know...
Thanks! |

| I believe you will find the '98 will be the same as my daughter's '97 -- fob-less. She needs to insert the key into the door lock and turn once to unlock driver's door, twice in a row to unlock all doors, and to the right to lock and set the alarm. I am sure a conversion is possible if expensive. |

Don't think mk3 had keyless entry. But if you get a remote starter installed it can tie into the power locks. Should cost about $200-400 installed, unless there is an immobilizer.

Yes they did plan on spending about $100 to $150? for all the required parts. The best part is it's plug and play no hacking of wiring etc.
check out www.vwvortex.com in the MkIII forum FAQ |

| Yes, it was available on the Mk3 starting (IIRC) late '97. The easiest way to tell if the car is equipped with it is to remove the headlight switch & look inside the dash. The keyless module will be a white box next to the aluminum cruise control module, where as the non-keyless unit is a black box in the same location. It is a plug & play conversion on most Mk3,s with the exception that the trunk button won't work on the earlier models. At least not on the hatchback ones. The dealer sells a retrofit kit which includes the module & two of the lolipops, but I don't recall what it sells for at this time. |

| i know all 98 vr6 models had keyless. take two keys, put one in the ignition in and turn it to the on position. put the other in the drivers door handle and then turn and hold. after about thirty seconds or so the car should beep if it has keyless... thats when you'd hit the remote and set the keyless module to your remote. |
